The E.C.C.O. (European Confederation of Conservator Organisation), defines a conservator - repairer as "a professional who has the training, knowledge, skills and understanding to act with the aim of preserving cultural heritage for the future".

These guide lines define the role of a conservator as: "taking responsibility for the diagnostic examination, conservation plans and treatments proposals, keeping a documentation of observations and works carried out."

Over the years there have been many approaches to repairing our horological heritage. We follow both the B.H.I. Code of practice, and E.C.C.O guide lines applying them both as appropriate.

Any item coming to, or being collected by us, is fully examined before being dismantled. A careful record of any unusual features and markings is made. It is then necessary to dismantle the item, in order to carry out an in depth examination along with an initial cleaning process. A plan of all required repair/conservation work is discussed with our client. Any required parts, apart from mainsprings, are hand made within our own workshop.

Once all repair work is completed, the object is then finally cleaned before being re-assembled, lubrication added, and its operation tested. Once the object is operating satisfactorily our client is notified and arrangements made for its return.

All our full conservation and repair work is guaranteed for 12 months.
