Repair and Conservation

Repair

The object is examined and carefully dismantled.
Record of anything unusual made.
First stage clean to aid closer examination.
Such repair work carried out as necessary to bring the object into full working order.
All corrosion, rust, verdigris etc removed.
All metals refinished by hand - to bring to the original level of finish. (As much as is prudent for the object).
Case cleaned and waxed, again as appropriate for the object. Movement finally thoroughly cleaned, re assembled and lubrication added.

Conservation.

This type of horological work is generally preferred by institutions such as the National Trust.

The object is examined and carefully dismantled.
Full train count taken and notes of any markings on the movement.
Record of anything unusual made.
Photographic record taken.
First stage de-grease to aid closer examination.
Such repair work carried out as necessary to bring the object into working order.
Corrosion problems dealt with.
Patina left on all surfaces, other than running surfaces.
Object cleaned for mechanical running.
Re-assembled and lubrication added.
