Repair and Conservation

We are pleased to offer a full service for the repair of clocks, this can include their dials and cases where necessary. All of our full repair and conservation work is guaranteed for a full 12 months. See our terms and conditions.

The E.C.C.O. ( European Confederation of Conservator Organization), defines a conservator- repairer as "a professional who has the training, knowledge, skills and understanding to act with the aim of preserving cultural heritage for the future". Further "we take responsibility for the diagnostic examination, conservation plans and treatments proposals, keeping a documentation of observations and works carried out."

Over the years there have been many approaches to repairing our horological heritage. We follow the B.H.I. Code of practice, and we are aware of the E.C.C.O guide lines, which we also follow as appropriate.

Typically any item coming to us, or being collected by us, is fully examined before being dismantled. A record of any unusual features is noted, then the object is dismantled, and an in depth examination carried out along with an initial cleaning process. A plan of all required repair/conservation work is made, and then carried out after any relevant negotiations with our client has been carried out. The object is then finally cleaned, and any figure prints as a result of our handling removed, before the object is re-assembled, lubrication added, and the item tested for a two week period. Once the object is operating satisfactorily the client is notified and the object either collected or delivered and installed, whichever is the appropriate action.
All our full conservation and repair work is guaranteed for 12 months.
