Our mechanical movements are unique to us, functional, accurate and fascinating to observe. They are my own work, designed and made in my own workshop - they are "Made in England".

  8 day musical face
  Month running calendar clock.
These two clocks, require winding once a month. Both feature the grasshopper escapement, and offer a good standard of time keeping. They are hand made throughout, with the exception of the dial scales which are designed and produced in England specifically for Richard Simmonds. The oak cased clock has an extra scale in order to display the phase of the moon. Please follow the link for images and further information.
Eight day musical long case clock.
Wound once a week this clock has a wonderfully intricate movement. It was designed and produced for a specific client and is unique. The going is controlled by a gravity escapement, allowing it to keep time well whilst performing a wide range of operations. Among the many features is a mechanical perpetual calendar, and a fine example of high temperature enamel work displaying both lunar and solar details. The musical chiming train plays the tune of Oranges and Lemons. This tune is rung by the bells of St. Clemments Danes, in London. Please follow the link for images and further extensive information.
Sun dial and armillary sphere.
Both these instruments show a good indication of the local solar time due to their design taking into account their latitude and aspect of mounting. All are made by hand from bronze, to our clients wishes. When designing sun dials for mounting on buildings we endeavour to reflect details of the architecture in our work.
